Antique Late 19th Century Wooden “One-Pound” Gym Dumbbell – Rare Light Weight, ca. 1880–1900** - Charming and scarce small-size solid hardwood dumbbell from the Victorian physical-culture era. Expertly lathe-turned with the classic bulbous ends, twin incised rings, and original dark shellac finish showing over a century of honest patina and light handling wear. it actually weighs only 15.1 ounces (just under 1 pound). This discrepancy is well-documented on genuine antique wooden dumbbells: many light pairs intended for women, children, or calisthenics classes were mistakenly stamped with heavier markings at the factory, or the stamps were reused across different weights. Surviving examples in the ½-lb to 1¼-lb range almost always carry “3 LBS” or “5 LBS” stamps despite their true light weight. Perfect junior/ladies size (approx. 9–10 inches long), making it far rarer than the common 3–10 lb men’s versions. Ideal for display, early fitness collectors, or anyone seeking that hard-to-find small antique wooden dumbbell. Excellent original condition — just light scuffs and one old paint mark. A true conversation piece and a genuine piece of 19th-century American (or British) gymnasium history. Single dumbbell.
